I absolutely adore this in the movie. It shows how Hermione still held hope that Ron would follow them, that he would return. This time, she wasn’t too proud to just walk away (even though she knew Ron was being a complete ass to Harry), because she realized that this is it, Ron may not find them anymore because we have the war and everything and not everyone can survive and the chances of them reuniting was pretty slim. But she still left clues anyway, because the thought of not having Ron around was too much to bear. She was at least hopeful about this, and that was the thing about Hermione, wasn’t it — she was a realist at heart. She should’ve known that Ron may not come back in her head. But she trusted her heart instead this time. And that’s what makes this scene so amazing.
